ACADEMIC RESEARCH
CURRENT WORK · DISSERTATION

What supports growth through adversity?

I'm exploring how individuals in high-pressure professions can be better supported through the extreme demands of their work. The need for this in healthcare cannot be overstated. My current focus is the physician population.

Fieldwork currently in progress.

FUTURE OF WORK · ARTIFICIAL INTELLIGENCE
How is AI reshaping work?

Book chapters I've written on AI and the future of work examine how artificial intelligence is reshaping work, what changes and what endures, and how organizations can preserve human strengths as AI becomes more embedded in organizational life.

The Future of Work in the AI Era: What Changes and What Endures (Oxford University Press, 2026).

This chapter examines how AI is reshaping work, both as a disruptive force and as a source of new possibilities for human augmentation. It looks beyond short-term efficiency gains to ask how organizations might redirect the cognitive surplus created by AI towards more meaningful problems. The chapter takes a systems view of AI adoption, emphasizing experimentation, thoughtful implementation, and the shifting boundary between what humans and AI can each do well. Grounded in Self-Determination Theory, it argues for a human-centered path forward that protects autonomy, competence, and relatedness while cultivating curiosity, humility, and collaboration.

Identifying and Measuring Entrepreneurial Talent in the Age of Artificial Intelligence (Taylor & Francis, 2024)

Entrepreneurship is an important driver of economic and social progress, with technology expanding access to opportunities globally. Entrepreneurial talent is also increasingly sought after by organizations, where the ability to identify opportunities, innovate, and create value is critical to staying competitive. Drawing on the psychological literature of entrepreneurial talent, this chapter gives practitioners an overview of what predicts entrepreneurial success, whether entrepreneurial talent can be reliably identified and measured, and whether AI can improve its identification.

FUTURE OF WORK · PERFORMANCE
What are critical work behaviors when navigating uncertainty?

This research on responsibility-taking behavior examines the need for employees to step forward, take ownership, and help work move forward collaboratively in today's complex organizational environments. This work focuses on the behaviors that are increasingly being expected of employees yet continue to be overlooked by traditional talent and performance systems, particularly in contexts where roles, structures, or expectations are unclear. The construct and measure were developed and field-tested across multiple studies, including a field validation study at the United States Military Academy at West Point, where it predicted job performance.

APPLIED RESEARCH
GOOGLE
MANAGER EFFECTIVENESS · EMPLOYEE LISTENING

How can employee sentiment on manager effectiveness be better understood?

Used machine learning and text analytics to analyze 120,000+ open-text employee survey responses, uncovering previously inaccessible insights into Googlers' perceptions of manager strengths, development areas, and emerging needs during a period of organizational change. The project produced both substantive insight into what Googlers want and how manager effectiveness can be elevated, and a scalable model for qualitative employee listening that was later presented to adjacent teams across the organization for adoption.

COACHING · EMPLOYEE LISTENING
What is the impact of coaching on employee and organizational outcomes?

Examined longitudinal quantitative data from 21,000+ coaching sessions, assessing the impact of coaching on key employee and organizational outcomes. The work offered a rare opportunity to study coaching at scale in a complex organizational environment and explored how coaching could be leveraged not only as an individual development resource, but also as a strategic tool for supporting employees through periods of change.

DEEPER SIGNALS
PSYCHOMETRIC ASSESSMENTS· LEARNING AGILITY · PERSONALITY SCIENCE

How can learning agility and personality traits be measured in individuals?

Developed a learning agility assessment from end to end, spanning theory, item development, validation, scoring, adverse impact testing, and technical reporting.

Also built global benchmarks for the company’s flagship personality assessment, analyzing data from  25,000+ participants across 90+ countries to support reliable and meaningful score interpretation across international populations.

MANAGEMENT CONSULTING (MULTIPLE FIRMS)
COACHING · PERFORMANCE · BURNOUT

Can coaching be a catalyst to performance in high-pressure cultures?

High-performance environments in professional services firms are marked by relentless demands, intense competition, and high stakes. In these settings, the pressure to excel can lead to burnout and diminished wellbeing, challenging both individual and organizational performance. This research explores the role of coaching as a catalyst for change in such contexts. Drawing on qualitative insights from management consultants, this research examines how targeted coaching interventions can promote sustainable performance amongst individuals in professional services, fostering individual growth and enhanced organizational outcomes.
